The Jolly White & Blue Giant

Martin Jol is fast becoming the most popular Spurs manager for years
and not just with his own supporters, as the media seem to like him
too. Jol has an infectious character and has the abilty to joke and
take defeat well. There are no excuses from Jol, ever. Still, you can
see when he is fuming and i for one would not like to be near him when
he is like that.
The Dutchman joined the coaching staff at the Lane as deputy to
the now departed Jaques Santini in the summer of 2004, but many believe
he was always being groomed for the top job and that Santini was merely
a name to keep spurs fans happy. Anyway that is neither here nor there.
The steady improvement of the team is no coincidence since Jol
took over in October 2004. And the quality of player prepared to join
the club has inproved also, with the signing of Edgar Davids amongst
the biggest the club has made for years.
If reports are to be believed then Ajax were said to have been
keen to take Jol to the Amsterdam Arena in January past but thankfully
nothing come to fruition.

Martin, pictured right playing against Ajax, came to England with
a tremendous reputation having worked wonders at relative minnows
Waalwijk.
While in Holland as a coach he won the Dutch Cup in 1997 and the
Dutch Non-League Championship with Scheveningen in 1996 as well as
various promotions with Waalwijk in the early 90's.
As a player Martin represented Den Haag, Bayern Munich, Fc Twente, West Brom and Coventry as well as playing for Holland.
Martin was born in The Hague, Netherlands on 16/01/56.
